Case #1: Make it harder for citizens to vote by mail.
Republican legislatures around the country are passing bills to make it more difficult to vote by mail by requiring new applications each voting cycle, increasing ID rules, etc.
The problem is that except for 2020 when Democratic voters, alerted to the dangers of being in crowds, chose to vote by mail, in every other year, the majority of votes mailed in were by Republicans!
Going forward we can expect the Democrats will have no problem going back to the polls, so the difficulties with mail-in voting will affect Republicans more than Democrats.
Case #2: Make it harder to count any undocumented workers towards the census.
Republican legislatures and national leaders have worked hard to create fear in the minds of undocumented workers that they could be traced if they are counted in the census, thereby suppressing the count of “persons”.
The problem is that the majority of undocumented workers are in Republican border states!
The net result is an undercount of persons in those states and a reduction in those state’s representation in congress and in receipt of financial aid from the federal government.
Case #3: COVID-19
There are now close to 600,000 deaths due to COVID-19 over the past year.
The problem is that almost all of those deaths occurred among citizens of voting age.
The majority of deaths were in the population cohort of people over the age of 60.
But that cohort votes overwhelmingly for Republicans!
A large fraction of the remaining deaths are attributable to riskier behavior such as attending mass gatherings without wearing a mask or social distancing. And of those people who reject the CDC and scientific advice, the majority are Republicans.
Now, the Republican party is goading resistance to vaccines, a practice that is assured to result in additional deaths.
So, dear Republicans:
I guess when you reject science, you reject logic too.
