100,000 DEATHS. A PERSPECTIVE

Since March 28, and as of today (May 28) there are now over 100,000 deaths attributable to an infection with COVID-19.

In other words, over the past 60 days, an average of 1,667 people have died EACH DAY.

Let’s put that into perspective.

The data below compares the death rate for COVID-19 to the death rates for 2018 (the last year for which CDC data is available)

Only Heart Disease results in more deaths per day. COVID-19 deaths slightly outpace the total for all cancer deaths.
COVID-19 death rates are 4 times as great as stroke,
over 7 times greater than Diabetes and
over 10 times as great as Influenza.

In Vietnam, the highest death totals for any month was 1,400, or about 47 per day.
In WWII, over 6 years, American deaths totaled a little over 400,000, or about 182 per day.
In the three years of the Civil War, there were 620,000 deaths, or about 566 per day.
