Despite a lot of research, effort and money leading to improved student outcome in secondary schools over the last 20 years, all the gains have occurred in the top half of students with the bottom half and especially the bottom quartile relentlessly losing ground since at least 2010 independent of social economic group and race. This article goes into the details and suggests some possible causes including computers and cell phones causing diversion of attention among our worst learners.
1.Do you have any suggestions for how to fix this problem. Banning phones in schools should help but they need to be banned at home as well.
2. What is the role of the parent in a child's education and how can it be incentivized?
3. How can we improve the quality of access to quality education across America especially in light of the defunding of the Department of Education and returning educational oversight to the states?
