Here is the best example yet of the problem with case reporting data. As Mr. Trump said, if you test more you will find more cases. This is an absolute truism. Testing results in identification, not creation. If you read an eBook on your iPad and you increase the magnification or the font size you will see less words on the page, but the number of words in the chapter will stay the same, the chapter will not be reduced in size. In Florida, the number of tests performed over the past 6 weeks has continually declined. Cases identified have also declined as a direct function of the reduction in tests.
Unfortunately, the positivity rates seen in June of around 5% have now increased to almost 15%.
Please remain skeptical when hearing “Great News” about decreasing cases. The current push to reduce testing is resulting in a decreased identification of cases, not a decrease in actual infections.
